Rumson Capital, a Jenkintown, Pa.-based life settlement broker, filed a counterclaim last week against its former president, Robert Meyer, accusing him of viewing pornography and exchanging emails of "a sexual and personal nature" with a woman his company did business with while using his company's email address during business hours.
The counterclaim, filed Friday in the Court of Common Pleas for Montgomery County in Pennsylvania, also alleged that Meyer practiced law for outside clients, searched for a new job and conducted therapy sessions with a psychologist during business hours. In addition, it said he failed to maintain or renew Rumson's registration to do business with the Secretary of State in various states.
The court filing responds to Meyer's June 11 lawsuit claiming that he is owed $533,823 in back pay, plus interest and legal fees and was fired without cause. Meyer alleged he was not paid his agreed-upon salary and benefits. He also named Candice and Samuel Mangel, a couple he said operate Rumson.
Rumson said Meyer was a partner and not an employee, and that Meyer agreed to forego regularly scheduled guaranteed payments and accept a lesser amount of such payments due to financial difficulty the firm was experiencing in 2009.
Rumson admitted that its relationship with Meyer "continued without compensation for many months."
Neither Meyer nor Meyer's attorney, Mandy Rosenblum of Conshohocken, Pa., were immediately available for comment.
